Introducing: Astro!

I wanted to take a moment and write about something lighthearted, since I have been feeling so challenged with Leilani and her ongoing story. So I wanted to introduce Astro!

When we bought this farm, we agreed to take on two feral cats who had been living here. The story is that 4 feral brothers were brought here from Connecticut, but soon after their arrival, two of them disappeared. My understanding is that they were kept in the barn in a small contraption (like a chicken coop) and then let out once they were acclimated to their new surroundings. It appears two of the cats stayed around and while the house was being remodeled, the cats were being fed by a caretaker, who did get them inside the house at one time.

They even had a cat door built leading to a room (which is now my office) but then raccoons heard there was dry food being dropped daily from an automatic feeder, and they joined the party. So the cats were in danger, as you know, raccoons are tough.

It appears the raccoons were captured and relocated, and then Astro was trapped again inside the house for a few weeks. Eventually he escaped….and now, we can’t get him to come in at all. So we have been feeding him twice a day, and he’s just a beautiful fluff ball who really wants to connect. I can’t wait to pet him! He’s not outdoor cat material, I can tell. I have had cats all my life (we just had to let go of our 20 year old cat). This cat wants to sleep on my bed and I would love him to.

I am hoping that he will want to come in at some point. In the meanwhile, I think he’s made a home on the inside of a boat that lives on the property. We’ll keep you posted on his adventures!
